The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) asked Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to cancel CMTS/UAS licences given to telecom operators including Cheers Etisalat DB (Swan- Cheers Mobile), Loop Telecom, Uninor, Videocon, MTS (Sistema-Shyam) and Aircel that have not met network roll-out conditions set by the authority.
Etisalat's wholly-owned subsidiary in Afghanistan has signed an agreement with the Afghanistan Telecoms Regulatory Authority (ATRA) to provide telecommunication services in rural and far-flung parts of the country.
The Department of telecommunications (DoT) has initiated a field survey to find the facts before taking action against telecom operators who missed their roll- out obligations.
T-Mobile plans to cover 100 markets and 200 million POPs with HSPA+ by year-end. AT&T, for its part, expects to cover 250 million POPs with HSPA+ by year-end. Further, AT&T plans to launch LTE service by the middle of next year and cover 70-75 million POPs with LTE by the end of 2011.
Ericsson shuns BSNL`s $450 million GSM supply tender, in protest against the government`s demands for vendors to share their source codes.
